The Union of Associations for help to mentally disabled persons in Republic of Srpska is a voluntary, humanitarian, social, non-party, non-governmental, multi-ethnic, non-profit, republican and entity organization that brings together persons of all ages and categories, in a state of mental retardation, their parents or guardians, in order to achieve a common goal - to improve the living conditions of the members of the Union.
The Union of Associations for help to mentally disabled persons in Republic of Srpska was founded in 1993 and consisted of 29 members of the Union - local associations in the municipalities of Banja Luka, Berkovici, Bijeljina, Bileca, Brod, Visegrad, Gacko, Derventa, Doboj, Istocno Sarajevo, Kozarska Dubica, Laktasi, Ljubinje, Modrica, Nevesinje, Novi Grad, Pale, Petrovo, Prijedor, Prnjavor, Rogatica, Rudo, Sokolac, Srbac, Srebrenica, Teslic,Trebinje, Foca and Samac with 3, 260 members - persons who are in a state of mental retardation. By the decision of the Government of the Republic of Srpska in 2006, the Union was given the status of an association of public interest.
Improving the living conditions of LUIS in all segments.
Full integration of LUIS with equal status in society.
Coordination of the work of local organizations in order to evidence and resolve the needs of people through the legal framework.
LUIS - Persons of reduced intellectual capacity, the term that Union uses for the type of disability of persons in mental retardation, according to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disability.
On the 3rd December 2008th the Union launched non profit economic activity, in order to employ its members and establish sheltered workshops for the production of thermo rolls for fiscal cash register.
